Defensanimal.org organised an Abolitionist Gathering for the day in which the official opening of the biggest prison for non-human animals in Europe, known as Bioparc, took place:

Defensanimal.org chose Valencia's Bioparc because considers that it is a good symbol to make understand that we do not ask for welfarist measures (more modern or bigger prisons and so forth) but rather we ask for what prisoners would ask for... the end of specism and the abolition of the prisons for non-human animals (zoos, aquariums, farms, fish farms, etc.)
COMMUNIQUÉ
Defensanimal.org, an NGO that represents and defends the interests of each and every non-human animal, is against the Bioparc because we must be aware of what they would ask for is not more modern and bigger zoos or aquariums, since these facilities are still prisons for non-human animals, wherein the only criterion that passes judgement on being condemned to life imprisonment is the species they belong to.
We should realise that discriminating anyone according to the species is not fair, as well as it is not fair to discriminate against anyone according to race or sex. That's why from Defensanimal.org we ask for the end of specism, and thus we are asking for respecting the interests of each and every one, regardless of the species we belong to.
Each and every animal with a nervous system has the capacity of feeling (pain, pleasure, fear, anxiety and so forth) and, as a consequence, we have interests that must not be disdained or underestimated just because of belonging to a concrete species.
From Defensanimal.org we ask for the abolition of all the prisons for non-human animals (zoos, aquariums, farms, fish farms, etc.)
